Plenty! Pies strike gold at British Pie Awards 2015
Plenty's award-winning gourmet pies struck gold in this year's British Pie Awards. The Cotswold based family pie-makers won one of just 21 gold awards for our locally sourced salmon pie and a bronze for our free range duck & gammon filling.
Eight hundred and thirty pies were entered by 131 professional bakers in this year’s competition and we scooped one of 21 golds to be awarded nationwide in the categories for which our pies were eligible. The British Pie Awards are hosted by Melton Mowbray Pork Pie Association (MMPPA).
In this year’s competition, the seventh, pies in 20 classes were assessed for appearance, texture and flavour of both pastry and filling. The judging panel of109 top pie perfectionists included TV chef Andy Bates, leading food critic Charles Campion and renowned food writer Xanthe Clay.
Our winning pie features smoked salmon from Severn & Wye Smokery, based at Chaxhill, Westbury on Severn.
Last year we entered the British Pie Awards for the first time and won the top accolade of ‘champion’ pie for our best selling Breton chicken pie.
“We are delighted to have won again in these, the most prestigious awards for pie makers and we are very proud of our small team who care about the quality of each and every pie.”
Matthew O’Callaghan, Chairman of the British Pie Awards, said,
“What a year for the Awards – we’ve seen a truly varied and plentiful plethora of pies. The standard of entrants this year was higher than ever before."
